Sedation Dentistry

|
Oral Conscious
Sedation provides a patient with a minimally
depressed level of consciousness that allows for total
relaxation (or sleep), but still retains the patient's
ability to respond appropriately to physical stimulation
and verbal command.
Unlike General Anesthesia where a patient is completely
unconscious, asleep, and unable to respond, patients
under conscious sedation are able to respond to commands
and breath on their own.
You may benefit from conscious sedation if you have a
lot of stress, fear or anxiety about going to the
dentist. you need a lot of dental treatment, you should
consider the use of conscious sedation, sometimes
referred to as "Relaxation Dentistry."
Conscious Sedation is Safe, Inexpensive, and Effective.
Many people have a fear of needles, difficulty getting
numb, or a bad gag reflex. Conscious sedation can help
with all of these issues.
When a patient is sedated and relaxed it is possible to
complete a large amount of complex dental treatment
during a single visit. Patients remain relaxed
throughout, and often have little or no memory of their
dental visit.
Commonly Used Oral Medications
The most common drug is Halicion
(also know as triazolam); it is very closely related to Valium chemically. The difference is that with Halicion
there is a much deeper relaxation and amnesia effect
than there is with Valium.
